Let me introduce myself.

Eddy next to a canoe on the Paquera beach on the way to Montezuma, Santa Teresa I was raised in the area, Paquera, having an intensive experience of the surrounding sea area, and the different islands. I've been a fisherman and Kayaker and have spent numerous years as a surf instructor.

The last three years I have dedicated much of my time to bioluminescence activities. I have been evolving the tours, enabling me to deliver the best possible experience for people from all around the world. My true passion is to have people see this area through my eyes for what it truly is a beautiful, serene and a magical place with a lot more to offer.

I just don`t offer a tour I offer the best experience that you can get in my country to get back home and feel that you want to come back, I will offer friendship, adventure and a lot of fun.

My main goal is to provide you the most professional experience to enjoy bioluminescence to everyone that visits the Nicoya Peninsula no matters where you stay Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, Montezuma or Tambor.

Discover bioluminescence, girls enjoying bioluminescenceWithin a few steps you reach to our costline where our professional kayaks and tour guides will introduce you to one of the most amzing phenomena that happens in the nature , biolumincense, single-celled organisms called dinoflagellates grow in quantities big enough to produce a “glow-in-the-dark”, only by splashing your paddles in the water light up making the water look neon blue.

Just after sunset, our tour begins at 6:15 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. Over the calm waters of the Paquera Bay waters, our bilingual guide will take you to the best spots to see the water sparkling from every movement in the water. This tour is done by kayak for the base price of $35, but if you don't want to sit in a kayak because you don't feel comfortable or maybe you want to take pictures with a good camera that is difficult to handle in a kayak, we have a boat to take you with an additional cost of $5 remaining at $40 per person.

Safari Nocturno

Safari Nocturno, enjoying sunset with eddybioluminescence If you want to take a late tour, our Night Safari tour stands out for offering you an unforgettable experience, especially during the first 3 days of the new moon, when the intensity and beauty of the aquatic lights reach their peak. Imagine sailing under a starry sky while the water around you lights up with magical flashes, creating a fairy-tale atmosphere that will transport you to another world.

It's important to note that if you decide to join us during the full moon, the bioluminescence phenomenon may not be as prominent in the 10 days leading up to it. However, with the experience and knowledge of our expert guides, such as Eddy, we will explore secret and hidden places where you can still appreciate the charm of bioluminescence on a truly glamorous night tour.

For those who don't want to sit in a kayak, we have a boat to take them out without risking getting their electronics wet for an additional $5.

 

  • Participants: Minimun 2 pax.
  • Schedule:Starts at 8:00 pm - Finish al 9:15 pm. (01 Hour 15 Minutes)

  • Price:Kayak $40 per person, or if you prefer by boat $45 per person.

  • Schedule:Starts at 9:30 pm - Finish al 11:00 pm. (01 Hour 30 Minutes)
  • Kayaking experience: None
  • Price:The base price of the tour is $200 (for up to 4 people), and an additional $50 per extra person.
  • Reservation: Full payment required for reservation, non-refundable.
  • Extra: Water, coffee, biscuits and cold or hot tea.

 

Special info about all tours

  • To ensure a more enjoyable experience and make the most of your time, we kindly request that you arrive on time for the tours. Timings must be strictly adhered to in order to ensure that all tours are carried out as planned.

  • These are the reference capacities for the tour packages:

    • For the first round, the capacity ranges from 1 to 43 people.
    • For the second round, a minimum of 3 people is required.
    • The third round is a special private boat tour, with a basic fee of $200 that includes 4 people. The maximum capacity per boat is 8 people, with an additional cost of $50 per extra person. The maximum number of boats available for the tour is 2, which means a total capacity of 16 people.
  • Depending of the weather in order to make a safety and comfortable bioluminescence tour we have a motor boat which is able to cary 4 people minimum, the ride will coast $50 dollars per person.
  • In order to comply with safety regulations for kayaks, there is a maximum weight limit of 90-110 kilograms per person.
  • For the nighttime bioluminescence tour, if you don't have previous experience in kayaking, it's recommended to take the tour in a boat (with an additional cost of $5), as sometimes it's necessary to extend the route during the night to find the best bioluminescence experience. For the boat tour, we have three sizes: 8 people, 6 people and 4 people.
  • Keep in mind that bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon that cannot be guaranteed during the 10 days leading up to the full moon. However, for those days, we offer an equally spectacular tour under the moonlight.

What to bring:

  • Head lamp (if you have one)
  • Sandals or water shoes
  • Light clothes that can get wet and/or a change of clothes
  • Bug spray (in the rainy season)

When is the best time to see bioluminescence?

Bioluminescence is best seen in complete darkness, so the best nights to experience it are before moonrise, after moonset, or during a new moon. Unfortunately, man-made lights can diminish the quality of this experience, so it's a good idea to be as far away from human settlements as possible on those nights.

I would definitely recommend the tour, Eddy adapts to all needs, I was travelling with a friend with a broken arm in a cast and one other that couldn't get in the water due to a recent tattoo and Eddy offered a ride in a bigger boat so that everybody could come the the bioluminescence !
